December Fishing Report

Things really have not changed much since November ith regards to the fishing here in Southwest Florida.  The redfish bite remains really good around the oyster bars and mangroves on high tide.  Shrimp on a 1/4 oz jig head or under a float will work best around the oyster bars on high water.  Work the mangrove islands and look for pockets, that is where you will find the Reds.  Either free line shrimp on circle hooks or use 1/4 oz jig heads.  Cast as far back as possible, even the occasional hang up will produce a strike. You might also try some cut ladyfish for redfish around the mangrove islands.  Take time and really work an area good before moving onto another location.

There has been some decent whitebait near the beaches and around the outer channel markers.  Net up some quality bait and head for snook country.  They have been hanging around the floating docks and mangroves shorelines on good moving water.  Free lined threads on 2/0 circle hooks will work best.  Remember the season is still closed, so take your pictures and get them back to the water rather quickly.

The spotted Seatrout bite has started to pick up around the grass flats in 3-5 feet of water.  Srhimp under a popping cork on a 1/4 oz jig head will work fine. Keep in mind that seatrout season is still closed until Jan.  You can catch em', but not keep em' until then.  They will provide good catch and release action.

If artificials are your thing, then throw Zara spooks and Rapala skitter walks early in the mourning.  Switch to Zoom flukes and Gulp jerk shads as the sun warms the water and the fish move deeper.  Now is a great time to try new arti's and see what's hot and what's not.

"May everyone enjoy the fishing as much as I do.  Sreaming Drags!!!"
